AGM
The West Devon Riding Club held their AGM at the Moorland Hotel on 24th November 2005. Twenty-seven members attended the meeting which began with the Chairman, John Orrell, giving brief details of events throughout the year. John also thanked those who have helped and supported us. The Treasurer reported a healthy bank balance and the Team Manager talked about our competitions this year. We discussed how best to improve our set of show jumps and agreed that the club would try to put on more training days, preferably early next season. There was a lot of interest in the possibility of a fun ride to be held at Easter.
During the year, members are allocated points for attending events and for their competition results and for representing the club in area teams. This years winner of the senior trophy was Amy Hewitt riding Buster. The winner of the junior trophy was Jenny Radmore on Shaugh Lady. Lucy Luscombe won the prize for the most points gained by riding more than one horse, she was also placed 4th on Lady Bumble. Jo Leverton was the best new member. The evening concluded with a delicious hot buffet, drinks and coffee.

Training Day
The club organised a training day on Saturday 24th September at The Grange. Michael Van Houben proved to be an excellent instructor with all horses and riders showing improvement by the end of their sessions. During the show jumping lessons Michael set up an assortment of grids and worked towards the riders keeping their line over narrow fences. He also had us practicing slipping the reins as if it were a drop fence and quickly gathering them up again. After lunch, out on the cross country course we had the chance to put into practice the skills we had learned in the morning. Michael was very good at encouraging people to try fences which they might not normally have jumped. He gave us confidence and achieved results. All the horses jumped well and we all had a great time. Nine members took part in the training and several people came along to watch. The weather was good to us and the facilities at The Grange were excellent. There were several requests to hold another training day during the winter.
Barbeque
The Evening Barbeque was held at Richard Radmore's at Meavy. Many thanks to Richard, to Sue for lending us the marquee, Nicola, Karen and Jill for buying and preparing the salad, John and Helen for the general setting up of the lights, heater, music etc and of course cooking the food. It was a lovely warm evening and nice to be able to relax, have a drink and chat. Twenty-six people attended.
Summer Show
The Summer Show was held at Medlands near Bickleigh on Sunday 10th July. It was a scorching hot day but the ground was perfect, not too hard due to rain earlier in the week. Many thanks to all the judges and stewards who stood out in the sun all day. Thanks also to those who helped us in putting up and taking down the rings and the jumps.
Jim Daw did a first class job of running the dog show. Entries were busy and the total amount taken was in excess of £140. The Showing and hunter rings were very well supported and the standard was excellent. Alison Webster and Sarah Wilson were the judges. Show jumping was quieter that usual in the early classes but very busy from lunch time onwards.

Spring Show
The Spring Show was a great success. The weather was lovely and the ground was perfect. All classes were well supported.
Dressage
The Dressage competition was held on Saturday 9th April at Huxton Farm. This event was very well supported and entries were full. The judge was Valerie Dean to whom we are very grateful. We must also thank Malcolm and Christine Norman for the use of their excellent facilities. Beautiful triple tier rosettes were donated by River Rosette Company. Competitors may have noticed that their marks were calculated in an unusual way! This same method was used for everyone and did not affect the final results. We apologise for any inconvenience which this may have caused.

Junior Novice Show Jumping Championship
As you know ( see below ) the West Devon Riding Club Junior Show Jumping Team qualified for this Championship at Hartpury in Gloucester on 3rd April. The team was Jenny Radmore on Shaugh Lady, Lucy Meyers on Peaches and Cream, Ellie Zajicek on George and Adele Colton on Rosalita. After a very early start 03.30 hrs on Sunday morning, our team arrived safely at Hartpury in time to start the competition at 08.30 hrs. 29 teams from across Britain contested the final and, after the first round of jumping West Devon had a zero score after clear rounds from Lucy, Adele and Jenny. After the second round of the team competition for riders aged under 17, an amazing ten teams remained on a zero score to go into a thrilling timed jump-off. We were unlucky not to be included due to faults in the second round. A team from the Wokingham and Bearwood Riding Club claimed the 2005 British Riding Club NAF Superflex Junior Novice Show Jumping Championship title. The West Devon Team was transported by C. J. Transport, many thanks to Di for driving.
Area 19 Indoor Team Show Jumping. - ANOTHER WIN
The club was represented by three teams at the Area 19 indoor show jumping at Duchy College on 27th February. Our junior team did brilliantly and won their section of the competition. They have qualified for the Final at Hartpury College, Gloucester in early April. The team was Jenny Radmore on Shaugh Lady, Lucy Meyers on Peaches and Cream, Ellie Zajicek on George and Adele Colton on Rosalita. All four members of the team jumped clear rounds and were involved in a jump off situation with two other teams, Cornwall Trec Group and Mid Devon Riding Club. All four members jumped off and the three fastest clear round times counted. West Devon won the competition and Cornwall Trec were placed second. VERY WELL DONE to the juniors.
The senior teams also did very well producing many clear rounds between them. They were were unlucky not to be placed. Senior riders and horses were were Amy Hewitt on Buster, Sally Roberts on Buster, Julie Webb on Springtime Folly, Lee Webb on Doug, Zoe Stock on Flicker and Vanessa Walker on Lady. Sandra Jones on Ava was placed 2nd as an individual.
WIN for West Devon Riding Club
The club has made a great start to the season by winning the Area Fun Team Show Jumping competition held at Cholwell, Lewdown on 30th January. There were 19 teams with four in each team, the best 3 scores in each round to count. After two rounds of jumping, only West Devon and one other team were on a zero score. We elected Jenny Radmore to represent us in the jump off. Jenny and her pony Lady were brilliant; they were 3 seconds faster than our rivals. The other members of this team were Pauline Bloomfield on Arragon, Sally Roberts on Starry Night and Amy Hewitt on Buster. West Devon were also placed third with another team, they were the fastest team with just 4 faults over both rounds. Jenny Radmore was also in that team riding Ike along with Kirsty Stanbury on Sweet Time, Jo Leverton on Whizzy and Adele Colton on Rosalita. Jenny, Adele, Amy and Pauline won individual prizes for jumping double clear rounds.
